Unavailable writings by filmmaker Stan Brakhage (1933-2003) who gave these lectures as a credit course at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago during the fall and early winter of 1970-71. Extended essays on George Méliès, David Wark Griffith, Carl Theodore Dreyer, and Sergei Eisenstein. The original program included screenings of forty-three films by Méliès, Griffith, Dreyer, Eisenstein, Cocteau and Edwin Porter. Includes an introduction by Robert Creeley.
