Das National Film Board of Canada hat den oscarnominierten (und, wie ich finde, sehr schönen) Animationsfilm Madame Tutli-Putli in voller Länge in seinen YouTube-Kanal gestellt.

Eine sehr schöne Idee: Das Electric Literature Magazine rief dazu auf, zu einem frei wählbaren Satz aus der aktuellen Ausgabe einen Animationsfilm herzustellen. Die teils wirklich wunderbaren Ergebnisse finden sich hier.

Das British Film Institute in London zähle ich zu den schönsten und angenehmsten der mir bislang bekannten großen Kinematheken. Derzeit läuft dort eine Reihe mit Sexploitation-Filmen der späten 60er und frühen 70er Jahre (an dieser Stelle ein Wink mit dem Zaunpfahl Richtung Potsdamer Platz), passend dazu hat der "Guardian" ein Videointerview/-feature auf seine Website gepackt, das sich zwar leider nicht einbetten, aber immerhin noch verlinken lässt:

Was für eine seltsame Geschichte BoingBoing da ausgegraben hat:

When we got out of college, my buddy Josh Dolgin and I set out to make an eight-minute cartoon. We figured it would take us three months. The plan was to use the cartoon to get a TV show and become rich and famous. None of this came to pass.

Instead, we spent three years making a 45-minute weirdo sci-fi hiphop buddy film. We nearly lost our minds and our friendship in the process. The resulting cartoon (we were told) was too strange for TV and too long for film festivals. The whole thing amounted to nothing: a fiasco, a waste of time. Had we spent three years playing with Lego and poking each other in the gums, it would have been just as productive. [...]

The other week I watched 500 Pound Planet for the first time in five years. I was afraid it would make me cringe, but it didn't. I like our cartoon! It's messy and ambling, but I think it's got soul and does a pretty good job of capturing what our lives in Montreal were like at the time. Instead of feeling guilty about wasting three years making it, I now feel guilty at having abandoned it.

Bei der gestrigen Demo in Berlin kam es am Rande des Geschehens zu Polizeiübergriffen:

Auch einfach, weil ich solche Szenen in meinem bewegten Leben schon häufiger miterlebt habe, bin ich von erschrockenem "Skandal!"-Rufen weit entfernt. Ein ordentlicher Karriereknick sei den betreffenden Beamten dennoch von ganzem Herzen gewünscht.

Update 1: Der Rechtsanwalt Stefan Richter hat Strafanzeige erstattet.

Update 2: In einer sehr wischiwaschi formulierten Pressemitteilung kündigt die Polizei ein Strafverfahren wegen Körperverletzung im Amt an.

International Visitors:

This video was shot yesterday in Berlin at the rally "Freedom not fear". 25.000 people attented this demonstration against the ongoing rise of surveillance in public and in the net. There were no outbursts of violence, nor any riots - the only exception being this display of police brutality against obviously peaceful people on the sidelines.

Everyone's entitled to their own opinion regarding this incident.

Update 1: A lawyer brings charges against the police man.
Update 2: In an official statement, the police announces to conduct criminal proceedings and concedes that the video above shows an unproportional use of violence.
