Die Geschichte um Orson Welles' Hörspielbearbeitung von H.G. Wells' War of the Worlds kennt wohl jeder: Angeblich folgten der Ausstrahlung hysterische Panikattacken und Hamsterkäufe - einige hatten die Interpretation des Invasionsstoffs als Live-Berichterstattung wahrgenommen.
Das Hörspiel wurde im Rahmen des Mercury Theatre on the Air ausgestrahlt, das noch zahlreiche weitere Stücke produzierte und sendete, die allesamt, natürlich, nicht den Status von Welles' Werk erreichten. Hier findet sich nun eine ungeheure Auswahl jener Hörspiele, darunter auch Welles' War of the Worlds. Die Stücke sind stream- und downloadbar, letzteres aber wohl nur mit reduzierter Geschwindigkeit.
